Helping patients with Pneumoconiosis

Their stories
"Pneumoconiosis has a high pain index and many people end up suffocating alive."

Pingxiang, Jiangxi Province, known as the "Coal Capital of Jiangnan," is rich in coal resources, and many workers go down the wells to dig coal when they are young, and they have a working age of fewer than ten years and more than thirty years. Due to the lack of protective measures in the work process, many people inhaled a lot of dust and eventually suffered from pneumoconiosis.
However, in the past, most of these workers worked in private coal mines, where they did not sign labor contracts or take out workmen's compensation insurance. Meanwhile, the incubation period of pneumoconiosis is usually 5-10 years.

Against the backdrop of the country's institutional reform, by the time the patients started to show symptoms, it was already difficult to find their bosses at that time, and they were unable to obtain recognition of their occupational diseases and enjoy occupational disease protection.

There are more than 6 million pneumoconiosis workers in the country. However, until the end of 2021, there are only 915,000 pneumoconiosis workers recognized as occupational diseases nationwide.

After falling ill, they lose their labor force and have no source of income, relying on their wives' odd jobs and their children's part-tsiime jobs to earn money. The lack of insurance and the need to pay out-of-pocket for medical expenses put enormous financial pressure on families of pneumoconiotics.

Drugs for patients with pneumoconiosis
Patients' own physical pain can put them in a state of chronic stress. In addition, the family of the patient will also be under the shadow of the disease.
Serious pneumoconiosis patients need to be accompanied by their wives or children day and night. Meanwhile, members of pneumoconiosis families also face great psychological pressure as the disease worsens and their lives pass away.
In this event, we will raise funds for the pneumoconiosis patients, hoping to support the pneumoconiosis patients in Pingxiang through online and offline charity planning and communication.

Besides the two cows fund-raising event, we have started new work: launching a medical research project on heating undershirts to support rehabilitation homes for pneumoconiosis patients, as well as advancing the development of an ongoing project, the Pneumoconiosis WeChat app.

We hope to combine the results of our field research with a systematic study of the existing laws and policies on pneumoconiosis, and try to propose feasible improvement programs to fundamentally change the survival status of patients with pneumoconiosis;

We hope to record the life stories of these kind and simple pneumoconiosis workers, so that more people can remember them by way of oral history;

We also hope to continue to conduct relevant medical research so that more workers with pneumoconiosis can improve their quality of life and breathe more smoothly......
